The MCC Rebels were looking to bounce back from last week’s difficult week by beating the TMB Panthers just four days after being ten run ruled by them. For the second straight year, the Rebels were playing the Panthers with the season on the line in the opening round of the Section 3A playoffs. With a win, the Rebels would advance to the doubleelimination portion of the playoffs with a loss the Rebels season would be over.

The Rebels would have Thea Schneider in the circle to start the game and the Rebel Sophomore pitched well. She allowed a single unearned run in each of the third and sixth innings but she didn’t allow the Panthers to get into their running game. A couple of attempted bunts by the Panthers were quickly handled by the Rebels for outs. It was a complete 180 from the Rebel’s defense on Friday.

At the plate, the Rebels were aggressive, collecting ten hits, four of which were doubles. Abby Loosbrock, Atalie Rosenbrook, Elise Paulzine, and Ava Deacon each collected two hits. Rosenbrook and Paulzine would each drive in two runs. The Rebels scored one run in the first and exploded for 5 runs in the second. MCC scored their final run in the fifth inning for a 7-2 victory.

The win was big for the Rebels who have not gotten into the double-elimination round since before Covid. Abby Loosbrock was on base 3 of her 4 at-bats with a pair of hits and a walk. The Rebel doubles came from Loosbrock, Deacon, Paulzine, and Rosenbrook. Thea Schneider picked up the win allowing 4 hits and 2 unearned runs She struck out three batters. The win advanced the Rebels to a third matchup of the season with Edgerton/SWC.

The Rebels and the Flying Dutchmen have faced off twice this season with the Dutchmen winning both games in very different ways. The first game wasn’t all that close, with the Flying Dutchmen scoring ten runs in the first two innings. In the second game of the season, just a week ago, it would come down to the final at-bat with the Dutchmen winning 3-2. This game was somewhere in between the two first meetings.

Edgerton/SWC scored a single run in the first inning on a ground out by Alyda Vandegriend. The Flying Dutchmen scored two more runs in the second inning on a single by the Dutchmen leadoff hitter. The final two runs would come in during a two-run fifth inning. Singles by Brenalyn Smit and Mateya Gilbertson made the score 5-0. The Rebels failed to score a run off of Paris Van Dyke, who allowed just 3 hits and no walks in the game.

The Rebel’s three hits came from Thea Schneider, Jayda Hellewell, and Ava Deacon. Hellewell was also hit by a pitch and two other errors got the Rebels on base but for the most part, the Rebel’s offense was quiet. Van Dyke led the Flying Dutchmen with 13 strikeouts. Thea Schneider took the loss but only gave up 5 hits while striking out 6. MCC’s defense only committed 1 error in the contest. The Rebels will play Saturday at 1:00 pm in Marshall against LQPV.
