GET THE DIRT

Mid-August through mid-September is the best time to repair, replace, or start a new lawn. Lawns with 50% or more weeds should be replaced.

To expand your perennial garden for next year, consider taking some cuttings from your overgrown perennials. There is some debate over what size cuttings should be. Some claim smaller cuttings are more likely to root and will root more quickly. Others claim larger cuttings develop more roots and become established more quickly once planted. This is a “trial and error” format for each person to decide. You may want to keep notes for the future.
