Apply fertilizer to peppers, tomatoes, and cucumbers when they start to produce fruit.
This is the time to replace seasonal plants that have failed or are diseased.
It is never too late to start a compost pile. A simple bin-type will work, or woven wire fencing with metal posts is acceptable. Grass, leaves, weeds, faded flowers, twigs, eggshells, coffee grounds, and fruit and vegetable scraps can be composted. Do not add any meat scraps. Turn this once or twice a month. It should be ready in a year. It will be half of its original size.
