GET THE DIRT

By Kathy Schwartz, Murray County Master Gardener Most herbicides are not recommended for use in the vegetable garden. Federal law governs the use of all pesticides. Anyone applying pesticides must follow the instructions and restrictions on the label.

The pesticide industry has responded to consumer demand for effective safe pest control. Biopesticides are made from plants, animal, bacteria or mineral sources. They are effective in small quantities and decompose quickly.

Even though it may be hard to do, pinch late flowering perennials (mums etc.) back lightly to encourage bushier growth.
