GET THE DIRT

Keep on watering. Weeds compete with flowers, trees and shrubs for needed nutrients, light and water. They also host insects.

Stop pruning and fertilizing trees and shrubs. This will prompt new growth which will not harden off before the cold weather hits.

Mulch to protect plant roots from damage and to hold soil moisture. This will also help moderate soil temperature as plants move into winter.
