GET THE DIRT

By Kathy Schwartz, Murray County Master Gardener Remove weeds and other unwanted plants from the base of trees. They take energy from the tree and are unsightly.

It is not to late to mulch. This will keep the roots cool and moist. This will also reduce weeds and improve the soil. Keep mulch away from the crown of the plant. Burying the plant will lead to disease problems.

Growing lawns need one inch of water per week. Water early in the day for best results. Watering early reduces disease problems and water lost due to evaporation.
