GET THE DIRT

By: Kathy Schwartz, Murray County Master Gardener Do not paint pruning cuts on trees, except on oaks. The tree recovers better without these products. Disinfect tools between cuts on diseased trees with alcohol or a solution of one part bleach to nine parts water. Set out shallow, covered containers of beer to capture slugs. They crawl into the beer and drown, allowing you to remove and destroy them.

This is usually the hottest part of the growing season. Plants can die or stop blooming. A thin layer of mulch will help.
