GET THE DIRT

By Kathy Schwartz, Murray County Master Gardener You can mulch your beds once the new plants have emerged.

When using a pesticide, especially an insecticide, choose a product that is bee-friendly and still effective. Follow the label Deadhead June through September.

Harvest rhubarb by twisting the stalk from the base of the plant. The leaves are toxic and should be cut from the stalks soon after harvesting; they can be put in a compost pile. Rhubarb will keep in the refrigerator for two weeks.
