The Fulda Murray County Central Warriors made the long trip to Fargo North Dakota just after the new year on the 2nd and 3rd of January to take part in the Rumble on the Red.
In the Rumble on the Red there are no classes, so each individual could meet an opponent from a much bigger school. Twenty-two mats ran continuously for three days, hosting almost 2,000 Varsity/ JV/Girl wrestlers, 40+ youth dual teams and 1,100+ youth individual wrestlers. Needless to say it’s a tough tournament, but also very good exposure for our small town team. To even make it to the second day is a daunting task and we had a couple wrestlers with bouts Saturday morning.
Vincent Bray, the 215-pound powerhouse of a ninth grader, plowed through 6 matches total in a 64 man bracket and came out the champion of the JV 215 weight class.
Kaston Clarke at 121 won his first match, then lost his second match in a 4-1 decision. In the consolation bracket, Kaston again won his first match and lost his second. Going 2 for 2 in Fargo is doing well.
Quintin Lewis at 160 would have liked to have gone further, but just fell short of the podium, missing the quarter finals by one match with three wins and two losses.
All in all, the F/MCC wrestling team fared well and learned a lot, and will enjoy the rest of their season after having attended the tournament.
