The 2024/25 wrestling season has begun and the Fulda/ Murray County Central Warriors are making a great start to their season heading to Marshall, MN for a Quad against the Windom Cobras, Adrian Dragons, and the Marshall Tigers. The Warriors this year have a full roster with many alternates. First up were the Windom Cobras and the first new wrestler of the year, who isn’t new to the program, was Dane Hansen at 107 lbs. who received a forfeit for his first match of the year. Another new wrestler this year who made his debut in the youth program as well, was Luke Sweetman at 114 lbs. Sweetman went the distance with Evan Kish of the Cobras and ended in a 7-10 decision giving the Cobras 3 points. Kaston Clark took on Mitch Voehl at 121 lbs and scored 4 team points in a 12-7 major decision. Adam Iverson fell to Carson Wall at 127, and Hunter Reese lost by decision at 133, putting the Cobras up 13 -10. Football quarterback Teague Meyer, at 139 lbs, won by 2 points after 3 periods of wrestling against Dagen Hansen. Brayden Gilb and Noah Mathiowetz found some strength in the Cobras lineup at 145 and 152, both losing by technical fall, putting the Cobras up 22-13. But the Warriors had more to offer and exposed the weakness of the Cobras, taking the last five matches. Cousins Quintin Lewis and Carson Lewis both received forfeits, followed by a fall from Carson Klein at 189 against Sam Hernandez. Isaiah Wolske, a senior recruit from TMB, scored six for the Warriors at 215 and was followed by a forfeit to Colby Kesteloot at Heavyweight, finishing the dual 42-22. Warriors start the season with a dual win.
Next up were the Adrian/ Ellsworth Dragons Val Jenniges and Luke Sweetman(107) of the Warriors. The Dragons would start the team scoring with a 6 team point fall. Dane Hansen(114) fired back at the Dragons with a 12-4 major decision against Riley Harberts, making the team score 6-4 Dragons after the first two matches. At the 121lb bout, Adam Iverson lost by decision to Bryson Kunkel, followed by Kaston Clark at 127 who pinned Aiden Timmer, making the team score 10-9 Warriors after the first 4 matches. At 133, Hunter Reese fell to Travis Weiss, followed by a technical fall by Teague Meyer at 139 against Izaiah Groenwold, tying the score 15-15. The Dragons, showed a little force at the 145 and 152 bouts, with Charger Erlandson winning by technical fall against Brayden Gilb and eeking out a close decision against Noah Mathiowetz with a score of 9-6 in a decision against Jackson Jenniges. About midway through the weights, the Dragons had a commanding lead 23-15, but the Warriors had more in store for the Dragons. Quintin Lewis at 160 lbs. scored 3 team points with a score of 14-8 against Caleb Wolf, followed by Carson Lewis, losing by major decision against Jesse Bullerman at 172. With a score of 18 -27 the Dragons couldn’t score again. The last three weights were led by senior Isaiah Wolske with a major decision against Garrett Penning. Carson Klein kept the pressure on, winning by major decision against Roberto Hernandez in a 15-3 major decision. The Dragons still had a 1 point lead going into the heavyweight match, as the mighty Colby Kesteloot stepped on the mat and scored 6 for the Warriors with a fall against Devin Mazza. With a final score of 3227 the Warriors were victorious against the Adrian/Ellsworth Dragons.
The Warriors would end up losing to the Marshall Tigers( 9-52) with Teague Meyer and Dane Hansen having the only wins. An excellent start to the season with a good amount of room for improvement.
