Headed by students Curtis Johnson, Jesse Swanson, and Aidyn Shaddix, the Fulda Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) hosted a Christmas food drive during the holiday season. Donations asked for included canned fruit and vegetables, as well as non-perishable soup, pasta, potatoes, rice and dessert.
All the local churches were surveyed for need and three responded by sending in the number of food boxes they needed and how many members each of the families in need had so we knew how much food to include.
At Fulda High School and Fulda Elementary School, the Holiday Food Drive was a competition to see which class would collect the most poundage of non-perishables. When all the items were weighed, the seniors won the food drive.
With the food all collected, Johnson, Swanson, and Shaddix filled the boxes, adding in squash donated by a community member, and meat certificates to Maynard’s Grocery that were generously donated by the Fulda Lions Club.
Representatives from First Presbyterian Church, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and Solid Rock Church collected the boxes and distributed them to the families in need. Seven total boxes were filled.
A significant amount of remaining food was donated to the Fulda Food Shelf, so as many families as possible could experience a Merry Christmas.
