By Norma Dittman Fulda City Council learned information on Monday evening regarding the new Murray County Emergency Alert System Hyer-Reach. County residents can sign up for emergency alerts, weather updates and critical information by calling 507-873-3311, or texting “Alert” to the same number.
The board were witnessesas Jazmine Vega, new Fulda City Polic Officer, took her Oath of Office.
During Open Forum at Monday’s Fulda City Council meeting, Fulda Game and Fish member Keith Hakeneis presented information about a new dock that the group wishes to place. The board voted to accept the donation of the dock.
Sherri Boehnke was present to inform the board that the late Judy Herrmann willed her house to the Fulda Fire Department. Boehnke stated that Herrmann so appreciated working with David Baumhoefner through her insurance, and seeing him in the capacity of Fulda Fire Chief, that she made the decision to will her home because of him. If the home is sold, Herrmann dictated that the funds from the sale of the property are to go to the fire department once all legal fees are paid.
Chris Webb, Southwest Regional Development Commission, presented information on a Safe Streets for All Planning Grant. The primary plan is to update the Safe Routes to School Plans that was created in 2016 and 2017 for Fulda and Slayton. The cost to the city of working with the program through SWRDC and Bollig Engineering is $1,500. A motion was made, seconded and approved with 4 in agreement and 1 opposed.
Jordan Odegard, Bollig Engineering, presented an update regarding the city’s infrastructure improvements.
A report regarding the Lead and Copper Tap Water Monitoring was received from the Minnesota Department of Health. Based on the results, the public water system has not exceed the action level for lead and copper, and is approved for use.
A notice of a Bluepeak Ser-vice Rate Adjustment was received. Effective April 3, Bluepeak has raised My Business Locals rates by $10.00 per month; Hospitality Locals & More increased by $13.00 per month, and My Business Locals & More increased by $14.00 per month.
Under unfinished business, the board learned that the railroad depot museum renewal policy will have the insured value of $583,900 Replacement Cost with an annual premium of $1,464. The cost of Reproduction New is $1,299,400 that would carry a premium of $3,500. Discussion ensued due to the fact that the Cost of Reproduction New would only cover the costs for modern materials. Any additional costs for historically accurate materials would be the responsibility of the City of Fulda to pay that difference. The board voted to approve the $3,500 premium with the hope of dividing the cost with the Fulda Heritage Society.
Mayor Jim Brown signed the City of Fulda, Minnesota National Day of Prayer Proclamation. The day is scheduled for Thursday, May 7th, 2026.
Spring Citywide Rummage Sale dates are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, May 15th and 16th.
Spring Citywide Cleanup will be May 19th for appliances and May 20th for all other items.
Ordinance 260 was passed in regards to the monthly billing and service charges. The ordinance states that the sewer charges that were effective on January 1, 1996, will be raised. The amount listed on the customer statements will be due on or before the fifteenth day of the month following the month covered by the statement. If payment is not made by that time (16 days after the first day of the month), the customer will be assessed a service charge of $5.00. A second notice will be given after 7 days and a service charge of $10 will be assessed (22days after the first day of the month). Seven days after a second notice is given, a disconnect notice is to be mailed (29 days after first day of the month).
Fulda Area Lakes Association received a permit to hold two raffles June 13th in Seven Mile County Park. A fund raiser/ membership event is being held that date.
