END OF YEAR RECAP MCC GOLFERS

The Rebels had a great start to the 2024 golf season. The weather was fairly mild all season with the exception of some windy days. However, MCC’s golfers had ideal weather to finish out the season during their final conference and section meets. The girl’s team had many returners with varsity experience. They would go on to win a few meets and individualist medals throughout the season. The Rebels earned the Red Rock Conference Runner-up title and Section 3A Champion title. Coach Kim DeLong was also named Section 3A Girls Coach of the Year. The girls team advanced to the Class A State Tournament where they played at Pebble Creek in Becker, Minnesota. MCC’s boys had a few new players as well as some returners. They played well throughout the season and made huge improvements. In their final two meets, the boys had two of their best team totals for the entire spring.

Coach DeLong stated, “The teams worked hard throughout the season again this year. Their hard work definitely paid off and both squads had a great post-season appearance. The girls really hammered down and reached their goal of making it to the state tournament. Our returning players on both teams will play an important role in guiding the rest of the team and any new players. This group of kids puts in a lot of time over the off-season, and I would expect to see a continued improvement in their game. My goal for next year would be for the girls team to return to the state tournament, and the boys to bring a few individuals and potentially the team to state.”

At the end of the season banquet, Most Improved Golfer honors went to Lauren Larson and Lucas Kuball. Larson improved her average by 13.74 strokes, and Kuball by 4.74 strokes. However, the entire MCC golf team made significant improvements throughout the season. Low Average honors went to Rachael Huso and Lucas Kuball. These two players were fairly consistent throughout each meet and were always looking for ways to improve their game.

The 2024 season was another growing year for MCC, but the Rebels rose to the occasion and had a strong season overall. Coach DeLong thanked the seniors for their dedication, and also thanked the returning golfers for their commitment to the successful golf program. The golf team is excited to have many returners, as well as new faces, join again next year. The players and coaches are eager to continue their streak of success and have a strong 2025 season.
