EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT GRANTS ARE ACCEPTED

COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

By Joanne Bergman The Murray County Board of Commissioners met on Thursday, July 6. A meeting delayed from the usual Tuesday meeting date due to the 4th of July holiday. Auditor Treasurer Heidi Winter presented the list of warrants to be approved by the Board.

Extension Educator Bonnie Christensen requested the approval of a Memorandum of Understanding that will allow moving the position of administrative support person to that of an Extension employee from the current County employee position. The support person will be hired for a 32 hour week with all the benefits of an Extension position. The hiring is slated for completion to allow for a September 1st hire date.

Jon Bloemendaal was given approval for an out of state trip to attend a conference of the North American Invasive Species Management Ass’n in Lincoln NE. Bloemendaal is the MN representative in his role as Agriculture Inspector. In that role he has the duty to inspect hay, gravel and other agriculture products that will cross state lines for noxious weed seeds. Inspection of gravel has become a new aspect of his duties.

Human Resources Director Ronda Radke informed the Board of the hiring of Amy Foster as the new Museum Coordinator beginning on July 11. The position calls for a 30 hr week at $22.56 hr. Foster has a long experience at the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum.

Administrator Carolyn Mc-Donald presented the Des-Moines Valley Health & Human Services Agreement for approval and signatures that will allow that agency to act as the fiscal host of the Southwestern MN Adult Mental Health Consortium, an eighteen county system.

An Emergency Management Performance Grant was accepted in the amount of $21,740. The grant provides reimbursement of salary and fringe benefits to Carl Nyquist as County Emergency Director. Another EMPG Grant of $44,000 will cover the costs of a natural gas powered generator for the county designated shelter (the 4H building).
