SLAYTON – It may be after Christmas, but that didn’t stop a group of Murray County Early Childhood Initiative (ECI) members from turning Slayton City Hall into a mini version of Santa’s toyshop on January 2.
Purchasing new items for the Wiggle-a-While open gym dates has been on ECI’s agenda for some time, but the group took advantage of black Friday sales this past holiday season and carefully chose items that they believed would bring the most wiggling fun to kids over the cold winter months. Amidst laughter and slinging tools, the ECI group spent an afternoon opening boxes and putting the various toys together.
Each year, ECI sponsors several open gym and open swim days to help parents get through the cold winter months. The events are free and open to all children ages 0-8 and their families. Children must be accompanied by an adult at the events, but it gives families a chance to wiggle out some energy during the coldest months of the year.
Wiggle-a-While Open Gym dates are on Sunday afternoons from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the West Elementary Gym in Slayton. The dates are January 19 and 26, and February 2, 16 and 23. ECI Family Swim will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday January 12 and March 2 at the Fulda Swimming Pool.
