On October 6, 2025, US Navy Vietnam Veteran, Keith Dumos, was presented with a Quilt of Valor following the meeting of the American Legion Post 322 Currie, MN. The quilts are given in honor, appreciation and thanks for their service; and to bring comfort, peace and healing to the veteran.
Keith Dumos, entered the US Navy May 5, 1967. While serving in Vietnam he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, National Defense Medal, Expert Rifle Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal. He was honorably discharged December 21, 1972, with the rank of 3rd Class Petty Officer. Keith, we thank you for your service.
American Legion Post Commander, Chris Lampers, and Dennis Johnson, welcomed family and friends, and shared with the audience information about Keith’s service experience. Jill Defries and Janna Milbrandt from Pieces for Heroes, Quilts of Valor group from Marshall, presented the veteran with his quilt, welcomed Keith home, and thanked him for his service. Jill then spoke briefly about the national Quilts of Valor Foundation.
Quilts of Valor Foundation (QOVF), was established in 2003 by Catherine Roberts to “cover Service Members and living Veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor”. Since 2003 more than 424,428 quilts have been created and presented to American veterans and active military service members.
Pieces for Heroes, Quilts of Valor group was formed in 2018, and meets at the American Legion, 411 W. Lyon St. in Marshall on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month from 8:30 AM to 12 (some days longer). All are welcome. Anyone can submit a QOV application for a veteran or active military service member to receive a QOV quilt.
