Fundraising efforts are still underway for the Remembering the Fallen Traveling Tribute, which will be in Slayton during the Murray County Fair August 11-16.

The traveling tribute honors all military members who have died since the beginning of the Iraq/Afghanistan wars. It bears 5,500 names and photographs, with just over 100 Minnesotans included in the memorial, including several with a local connection. The photos and names have been submitted by family members.

This year, the country will observe the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of our nation. Shortly afterward, the Remembering the Fallen Traveling Tribute will be retired and will no longer be on tour.

Funds raised via donation will be used to pay for the tribute and associated costs with bringing it to our area. The more funds that can be raised, the more enhancements can be added to the display, localizing it for our area.

Each donor will receive a laminated certificate for display and will also be represented on a sign at the tribute site.

Anyone looking for more information can contact Slayton American Legion Commander Brad Pagel at 605-366-3025 or email bppagel@gmail.com. Donations are tax deductible.
