CHANDLER AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY MEETING NOTES

The Chandler American Legion Auxiliary met on Tuesday, April 16 with President Patsy Buys presiding. The meeting began in usual form. Geri Sankey gave the opening devotions.

For old business, it was decided that each member’s dues will stay the same as in the past few years.

For new business, it was discussed for each member to try to report their volunteer hours each month, instead of at the end of the year. This information will be gathered and will be recorded and much easier to remember.

For more new business, an invitation was read from the Luverne Veteran’s Home. They are having an Open House on June 7th, celebrating 30 years since they opened. The Open House will begin at 11:00 am. A program will be held at 1:00 pm. Members are encouraged to attend.

A notice also came from the Veteran’s Home, that they want their old flag poles replaced with new ones. A discussion will be held at the May meeting. The Auxiliary discussed ordering a poppy “kit” to help make poppies for Poppy Day and for Memorial Day.

It would be quite costly to order a kit, then also pay postage to send the poppies back. It was decided not to order a kit.

The amount of poppies that were ordered several months ago have arrived. They are ready for Poppy Day and Memorial Day.

With no further business, Geri gave the closing prayer, and the Auxiliary sang “America.”

The Legion joined the Auxiliary for lunch served by Mary.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, May 21 at 1:30 pm at the Community Center. Faye Schuur is hostess.
