BUTTERMAKERS SUFFER 1ST LOSS/RAINOUT DURING THE WEEK

Hadley suffered their 1st loss of the season during Wednesday night’s action and then Mother Nature rained out their Memorial Day game against Adrian on Monday. Here is the week’s recap:

It was a battle for the top spot in the Gopher League standings as unbeaten Hadley traveled to Luverne to take on the 1-loss Redbirds. Luverne had no problem with Hadley as they took down the Buttermakers 11-0 in a 7-inning contest.

It was a cold, misty, windy night for baseball for these two top teams to play as the temperature hovered around 50 degrees at game time. The weather did not affect the Redbirds bats as they peppered the ball around the park for 11 hits of the Buttermaker pitchers. The Luverne starter would keep the Hadley bats silent as he held Hadley to just 5 hits. Besides cold bats, the Buttermakers made 6 defensive errors in the game that aided in the Redbird scoring.

Avery Weber started for Hadley against the Redbirds. Luverne would start the game by scoring 4 runs in the first inning thanks to three fielding errors. That was all Luverne would need. Luverne would add 1 run in the 2nd, 3 in the 3rd and 1 in the 4th to go up 9-0. Luverne would end their scoring in the 6th when they put 2 runs on the board for a 11-0 lead.

Hadley would get only 5 hits. Hadley’s only opportunity to score came in the 7th when Max Zwart led off with a single and Danny Blankenship doubled, but the Luverne pitcher would get the next 3 Buttermakers out on strikeouts to end the game.

Avery Weber took the loss for Hadley. Trent Carlson saw mound duty for Hadley. Eric Wieneke, Nick Bruning and Kellan Johnson recorded Hadley’s other 3 hits in the game.
