The veteran First Nite League powerhouse, Fairmont Martins came to Hadley on Sunday to take on the veteran Hadley Buttermakers in early season action. Fairmont has been one team the Buttermakers have had some great wins against, but also some difficult losses in the past. Hadley was hoping that Sunday would be a good day for them in hopes of keeping their record unblemished after 2 weeks of games. Sunday was a good day for Hadley as things went their way as the Buttermakers flew past the Martins in a 7-inning shortened contest, 20-5.
It looked like Fairmont was out to show the Buttermakers that after their year ended early last year due to league team infractions, they were out to show their resolve as they loaded the bases on 3 hits off Buttermaker starter, Avery Weber. Avery was up to the challenge as he got out of the inning without allowing Fairmont to score by striking out 2 Martin batters. Hadley stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the inning and showed Fairmont they were ready for the task as they scored three times on two hits. Danny Blankenship would double to bring in one run with two runs scoring on bases loaded walks for the early 3-0 lead.
Fairmont would fight back in the 2nd inning when they scored two runs on two hits to pull within one run. Hadley would counter in the bottom of the inning scoring three more time to go up 6-2. Hadley would get 4 hits in the inning with Alex Petersen picking up a big bases loaded 2-out single.
Fairmont would add a run in the 3rd thanks to a dropped fly ball accounting for their scoring opportunity. Hadley stepped up and blew the game up. Hadley would bring 17 batters to the plate and score 11 runs to go up 17-3. Hadley would get 8 hits in the inning off Fairmont pitching. Five Martin fielding miscues aided in Hadley’s scoring efforts. Fairmont was fortunate for only 11 runs as Hadley would leave the bases loaded.
Fairmont would score their final two runs in the 4th off of Avery. Hadley would score once in the bottom of the inning for a 18-5 advantage.
Hadley’s final scoring would come in the 6th when they scored two runs on singles from Derek Platt and Max Zwart. Avery Weber would allow Fairmont only 1 hit the final 3 inning and hold Fairmont scoreless in the convincing 20-5 Buttermaker victory.
Avery Weber went the distance for his 2nd victory of the season. Avery would end the game with 12 strikeouts, 2 walks and 1 hit batter. Derek Platt led the Buttermaker hitting attack with 4 hits. Joe Larson and Max Zwart would each pickup 3 hits with Alex Petersen, Justin Benda, and Danny Blankenship each adding 2 hits and Kellan Johnson with 1 hit. Alex Petersen and Max Zwart would each pick up 4 rbis for Hadley. Derek Platt, Joe Larson Danny Blankenship, and Trent Carlson would add 2 rbis and Kellan Johnson getting 1 rbi.
