The Rebel Boys played their second home conference game of the week, Friday night (February 16) against Adrian/ Ellsworth, in the second of two meetings this season. MCC won the first meeting in Ellsworth back on January 18th by a score of 85-46.
The Rebels got off to a fast start from beyond the arc as Aidan Dierks and Ross Engelkes each drilled two, to go up 12-3. Bryce Hoekman scored, pushing the lead to 14-5 after a Dragon’s bucket. Engelkes got a steal in the full court pressure and laid it in to go up 11, before Hudson Schryvers got a steal and an offensive rebound, plus the put back, to push the Rebels lead to 18-5. He was fouled and earned the and-1, but missed the free throw.
MCC got a stop before finding Hoekman in the post. He finished, to push the Rebels lead to 15. Bryce would score again on the next possession and the Rebels were up 22-5 early in the contest.
A/E connected on two free throws on their next possession, before Dierks hit another three, his third of the half. Bryce Hoekman scored the next basket to push the lead to 20, at 27-7 with 11:30 to play. 12 seconds later, Carter Lewis found Aidan Dierks in transition for lay-in. 45 seconds later, Dierks connected on his fourth 3 of the half and MCC had a 32-7 lead.
Both teams played evenly for the next couple of minutes. Then, the Rebels would have a dry spell. Adrian/Ellsworth cut the lead to 18 at 41-23 before the Rebels called a timeout. Carter Lewis answered back immediately after the timeout, with a 10 foot jumper to push the lead back to 20. That is where the half would end, MCC 48, A/E 28.
The second half started off with a defensive stop, followed by a great effort by Carter Lewis on the offensive end. He snagged an offensive rebound and putback, to kick the scoring off in the second half.
The Rebels started to build on the lead and at the 15:13 mark the score was 53-31. At the 12:45 mark the score was 60-31. The score was 68-34 after a Dylan Kluis three from the right wing with just over 10 minutes to play. Running clock would start soon after, as the Rebels earned the 82-48 win. MCC moves to 13-10 on the year and will head to Tyler for the rematch against RTR on Tuesday night.
