University of Minnesota Extension, along with Minnesota Beef Council, will host Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) trainings starting in February 2023. Producers attending any of the free workshops will receive a three-year BQA certification.
In the past, beef producers have been asked to complete the BQA program to market cattle to certain processors. However, BQA certification is still voluntary. Specific companies have chosen to extend their own quality assurance protocol requirements to cattle producers who are a part of their supply chain. BQA certification is now being required by many major industry buyers and processors. When a producer does not have current BQA certification, the result is that many packers and feedlots simply cannot purchase those cattle because their company cannot source cattle from a producer who does not meet their certification requirements. BQA trainings that will be offered in 2023 include:
•Online Zoom training: Tuesday, February 21, 2023, 7:008:30 p.m.

•In-person training: Thursday, March 9, 2023, 3:00-4:30 p.m. at Pipestone Livestock Auction Market.
