FULDA RESIDENTS RALLY IN SUPPORT OF MAYNARD’S GROCERY STORE

By Norma Dittman Approximately 225 Fulda area residents filled the cafeteria at Fulda High School on Wednesday, January 14th for a meeting with management of the Maynard’s Grocery Store. A ‘For Sale’ sign posted in December on the entry door to the Fulda Maynard’s Grocery Store was the first indication to the community of the store’s struggle to be profitable.

HOFFMANN OFFICIALLY APPOINTED SLAYTON POLICE CHIEF

The Slayton City Council on Tuesday approved the appointment of Jesse Hoffmann to the position of Slayton Police Chief. Hoffmann has been serving as interim chief since the resignation of Jeremy Steinle. The union waived the 10-day internal posting provision of the labor contract and supported Hoffmann’s appointment as chief.

EXPERIENCE CULINARY DELIGHT AT NEW 507 BURGER AND PIZZA

By Norma Dittman Bryon Thurston, a native of Fulda, and his wife, Amy, along with daughter Kelsie Dick, have been operating the former Antonio’s in Fulda under the new name of 507 Burger and Pizza since Monday, December 15th, 2025.

FIEDLER PRESENTED WITH QUILT OF VALOR

On January 14, 2026, US Army Vietnam Veteran, Gary Fiedler, was presented with a Quilt of Valor at the meeting of the American Legion Post 576, Avoca, MN. The quilt is given in honor, appreciation and thanks for the veteran’s service; and to bring comfort, peace and healing to the veteran.

MCC DRAMA DEPARTMENT TO PERFORM ONE ACT PLAY “RUE”

Two dozen students from Murray County Central High School Drama Department will perform the one act play “Rue” at 7 p.m. Monday, January 26 at the MCC Auditorium. Tickets will be available at the door.

ITS TIME FOR A REALITY CHECK

Reality Check is preparing for its fifth year in the MCC and Fulda School Districts and volunteers are needed! Do you remember trying to run a household for the first time? Insurance, vehicles, kids, medical expenses, banking and maintaining a budget were a mystery. Our high school students are facing this challenge and need help to prepare, so it is time for a Reality Check! High school seniors from MCC and Fulda school districts will attend this interactive program on March 23 that assigns them an income, then sends them out to choose insurance, transportation, medical, finance options and more.

MCC SCHOOL BOARD REVIEWS PARENT SURVEY

The Murray County Central School Board opened up their first meeting of the year with an election of officers. Tony Clarke maintained his position as Chair, Lauren Biegler remains Clerk, Robin Gilbertdon remains Treasurer and Brent Miller remains Vice Chair.

NEW OFFICERS VOTED IN FOR 2026 FULDA SCHOOL BOARD

Election of new officers for the 2026 year was at the top of the agenda for the Monday night Fulda School Board meeting. Loren Carlson was voted in as the new chairman, Kayla Clarke as vice chair, Marcie Ash as clerk, and Brian VanderBeek remains the treasurer.
