Read for the Record is an annual event where millions of people read the same book on the same day to celebrate the joy and importance of early literacy. Now in its 20th year, the Jumpstart organization has chosen See Marcus Grow by Marcus Bridgewater and illustrated by Reggie Brown for this year’s book! See Marcus Grow follows a boy who learns meaningful lessons in his grandmother’s garden. Marcus discovers that plants—and people—need care, patience, and “water and air and sunshine—and space to grow.”
You can join Read for the Record in one of two ways.
Read at home: Before Read for the Record day, visit the library and check out a copy of See Marcus Grow to read at home with your loved ones. If you’re reading at home, make sure to let the library know how many of you read together on February 26th! You can call them at 507-836-8778, email slaytonlib@plumcreeklibrary. net or comment on their #ReadForTheRecord20th post on Facebook or Instagram. Photos are welcome but not required for participation.
Read at the library: On Thursday, February 26th, join a special storytime at 10:30 a.m. tailored to toddlers and preschoolers. But all ages are welcome – including grandparents or siblings. See Marcus Grow will be on-display all day long, so you can drop-in before closing, read it, and add yourself to the Read for the Record tally board. Every reader counts!
