MCC TRACK TEAMS RETURN STRONG AT WINDOM INVITE

After a two-week layoff due to weather-related postponements, the Murray County Central boys and girls track and field teams returned to action Tuesday, April 14, at the Windom Invite, competing against Adrian/Ellsworth, Windom Area, Westbrook-Walnut Grove/Red Rock Central, and Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey.

Boys Highlights

Murray County Central turned in a strong all-around performance, highlighted by multiple event champions and numerous top-eight finishes.

Alexander Betz led the distance crew with a first-place finish in the 1600 meters (4:55.51, PB) and added a second-place finish in the 800 (2:08.00). Teammates Henry Carlson (3rd, 2:14.34) and Brayden Gilb (4th, 2:20.00) also placed in the 800, while Micah Janssen took fifth in the 1600 (5:12.71) and Wesley Hause added an eighth-place finish (5:49.49). Hause also placed second in the 3200 meters (12:20.37).

In the sprints, Caleb Rosenbrook led the way with a thirdplace finish in the 100 (12.49), while Luke Iverson (9th), Ayden Like (12th), and Wyatt Thompson (14th) also competed. In the 200, Parker Olson placed second (24.56), followed by Max Mathiason in seventh (26.64).

Olson had a standout meet, winning the long jump (19-0), taking first in the 300-meter hurdles (46.72), and placing third in the 110-meter hurdles (18.40). Tyler Reith (2nd, 18.20) and Evan Braun (5th, 21.97) also placed in the 110 hurdles. In the 300 hurdles, Dylan Gilbertson (3rd, 48.26), Reith (4th, 48.34), and Braun (5th, 52.88) gave MCC four top-five finishers.

Field events were another strength for the Rebels. Gabriel Wolske won the discus (138-8) and placed fourth in the shot put (40-8.5). Broox Platt finished second in the shot put (43-6), while Luke Iverson added a sixth-place finish (33-8.5). In the discus, Platt was third (109-1), and Iverson added a 10th-place throw.

In the jumps, Dylan Gilbertson captured the triple jump title (37-9), with Brett Pieske (2nd, 36-1), Brayden Gilb (5th, 33-1), and Aubin Licht (6th, 3210) all placing. In the long jump, Pieske (5th), Max Mathiason (6th), Alexander Betz (7th), and Ayden Like (10th) contributed.

MCC’s relay teams also turned in strong performances.

The 4x200 relay team of Max Mathiason, Dylan Gilbertson, Henry Carlson, and Brayden Gilb placed 1st (1:42.71).

The 4x400 relay team of Aubin Licht, Alex Betz, Dylan Gilbertson, and Brayden Gilb placed 2nd (3:55.00), while the team of Luke Iverson, Tyler Reith, Micah Janssen, and Henry Carlson placed 4th (3:59.14).

The 4x100 relay team of Aubin Licht, Max Mathiason, Beckett Stelter, and Caleb Rosenbrook placed 3rd (51.81), while the team of William Biren, Walker Biren, Brett Pieske, and Wyatt Thompson placed 5th (53.41).

Girls Highlights

The Murray County Central girls were led by Charley Holm, who won both the 200 meters (28.11) and the long jump (151). Holm also anchored two relay teams that placed in the top three.

Holm’s teammates also contributed key finishes. In the 200, Kora Kremer placed 10th (31.81) and Brecken Larson was 15th. In the 100, Larson led the team with an eighthplace finish (16.06).

In the 400 meters, Isabela Schreier placed second (1:05.21, PB), one of the top performances of the day. Holland Vogel added a third-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles (57.09), while Chloe Kremer placed seventh in the triple jump (24-8).

Relay teams were a highlight for the girls squad: The 4x100 relay team of Chloe Kremer, Brecken Larson, Kora Kremer, and Charley Holm placed 3rd (59.75).

The 4x400 relay team of Isabela Schreier, Holland Vogel, Kora Kremer, and Charley Holm placed 2nd (4:40.16).

Despite the extended break from competition, both Murray County Central teams showed depth and competitiveness across events, recording numerous top-eight finishes against a strong field of area schools.
