FULDA SCHOOL BOARD RECEIVES DESIGN AND BIDDING SCHEDULE

By Norma Dittman Members of the Fulda School Board received information regarding the design, bidding and building addition schedule at Monday’s meeting. Bids are due April 30th. The building addition construction will begin during the 2026 summer, and is scheduled to be completed by the end of the 2026 year.

Class registration for the 2026-2027 year is starting. FHS Sophomore, Junior and Senior students will have increased opportunities when it comes to course selection. Several paths are available to the students including the traditional High School Coursework enhanced with Articulated Courses (course credit with Two Year Colleges) as well as the option of Concurrent Enrollment Courses (College in the High School - partnering with Fon du Lac with courses taught on site); and also Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO).

The board received resignations from the One Act Play Director, Davina Ethridge, and the Head Girls Basketball Coach, Andrew Oakland.

Approved were a request for Leave of Absence for non-certified staff, Logan Fagen, and a contract for a long-term substitute teacher, Paige Roberts.

Forty-four year veteran Special Education Teacher, Machelle Nolt, notified the board of her retirement.

Approved was a Building Usage Agreement with Solid Rock Church to use school property pursuant to the School’s Policy Regarding Community Use of School Facilities.

During Open Forum there were three community residents who addressed the board. Nan Henning, who had addressed the board members at the February meeting, re-addressed the enrollment decreases, as students are open enrolling to other schools. She asked the board what their plan is if enrollments continue to decrease, and said that she hopes the board makes the correct decisions regarding looking to the future. She did ask if it looked like Fulda Schools may need to consolidate with Murray County Central in the future.

Mike Kunerth stated that he has always been positive about Fulda Schools. He graduated from Fulda as did his two children. He talked about studying enrollment over the next 10 years and realizing that it is projected to decrease.

Kunerth said that he believes it is probably due time to talk about consolidation.

Shelly Onken talked about rankings of Fulda schools versus Murray County Central. She continued by saying that Fulda schools need to attract new students, and that, hopefully, the upcoming open meeting with the Murray County Central School Board will open more conversation about consolidation.

In Recognizing District Groups and Supporters, the board and Superintendent Pagel listed wrestler Kaston Clarke for earning 6th place in State Wrestling; the Fulda BPA Chapter for their State Qualifiers; Fulda American Legion for sponsoring four students for Legionville; the First Presbyterian Church, Tami Wiener, and Susan Lee for food in the lounge during parent/teacher conferences; a preschool parent for donating art supplies; the Fulda Education Foundation for a donation to the elementary PBIS Program; longterm substitutes, and the bus drivers.

The board authorized the school district administration to advertise for summer employment positions.

They also approved the 2026-2027 School Year Calendar, the 2026-2027 Southwest Service Cooperative contract, and the 2025-2026 Fiscal Year Budget with no revisions.

Fulda School Board will hold a special board meeting at Murray County Central on Monday, March 30, 2026, at 7 p.m. to discuss the future of the schools.

The next monthly meeting of the Fulda School Board will be on April 13, 2026, at Fulda High School.
