The MCC Boys Baseball team opened their season on Monday afternoon against the Wabasso Rabbits in Slayton. With terrific weather, the two teams were excited to get the season started and the fans were happy to not have to wear their winter coats. The MCC Rebels put together a strong performance on the mound and in the field on their way to their first win of the season.
Krew Schneider got the start for the Rebels on the mound. It was Schneider’s first start in almost two years after not being able to pitch last season due to an injury. The Rebel junior did not disappoint in controlling the Rabbits through five innings. Schneider allowed a pair of singles in his five innings on the hill while striking out eight batters and now allowing a walk. Teague Meyer would come in for the last two innings, allowing just 1 hit and striking out 3. Defensively the Rebels played a solid game with just one error over the seven innings.
The Rebels went scoreless in the first inning, but they scored their first runs of the season in the second inning. Krew Schneider singled to right field to leadoff the inning. Noah Frisk came in to run for Schneider, stole second and then third, and an error at third allowed Frisk to score. Gabe Tentinger took a walk and was then bunted over to second base by Carson Lewis. Danny Larson singled, putting runners at first and third. Tristan Behrands hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Tentinger, putting the Rebels up 2-0 after two innings. The Rebels opened the game up in the third inning already leading 3-0. Teague Meyer doubled to open the inning and Cayden Veldhuisen followed with a walk, then stole second base. With one out, Krew Schneider singled to center, bringing home both Meyer and Veldhuisen and making the score 4-0. The Rebels later scored on a passed ball to make the score 5-0. Tristan Behrands came through with a 2-out single to right that would plate two more runs, putting MCC ahead 7-0. Neither team scored the final four innings, and the Rebels picked up the shutout win 7-0.
It was a good start to the season for the Rebels with Krew Schneider picking up the win on the mound. At the plate he had a good day as well, going 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs. Tristan Behrands went 1 for 2 with 3 RBIs. Teague Meyer was 2 for 4 with a double and a stolen base. The Rebels are 1-0 on the season and are scheduled to play later this week in Milroy against MACCRAY.
