ARLEN “SHORTY” H. OHLRICH

Shorty Ohlrich was born on June 16, 1939, in Chandler, Minnesota to Herman and Pearl Johnson Ohlrich. He grew up in Iona and graduated from Slayton High School in 1958. On May 27, 1961, he and Diane Payton were married at the Hadley Lutheran Church in Hadley, MN. Following their marriage, they made their home in Hadley, rural Slayton, Fulda Windom and eventually back to Slayton. Shorty worked for Caldwell Packing until 2004 when he retired. Shorty passed away at his home in Slayton on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at the age of 83. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton. Shorty enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking, traveling, camping, hiking, and fishing.

MARY L. HUBBARD

Mary Leann Hubbard (Muriel Erbes) was born on October 21, 1945 to Gerald and Marvel Erbes. She died on February 17, 2023 at the Murray County Hospice House at the age of 77.

DENNIS DALE HAASE

Denny Haase was born on May 25, 1944, in Milaca, Minnesota to George and Phyllis Schewe Haase. He grew up in Bloomington, MN and graduated from Bloomington High School in 1961. In 1974 he moved to Slayton, MN. On May 10, 1975, he and Karen Tverberg were married in Baltic, SD. Following their marriage, they made their home in Slayton where Denny owned and operated Proctor Sanitation. Following the sale of the sanitation company Denny went to work with for his brother at Superior Sawing and Sealing. He later went to work for Schaap Sanitation until his retirement in 2019. Denny passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at Ava’s Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 78. Denny enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, working on rebuilding his Ford, and spending time in his shop.

DAVID D. SWANSON

David Dean Swanson was born on January 28, 1942, in Slayton Minnesota to Clarence and Ruth Priebe Swanson. He grew up on the family farm north of Slayton and attended Slayton High School. On September 27, 1959, he and Neva Kepler were married at the Slayton Presbyterian Church. Following their marriage, they made their home on a farm north Slayton until 1970 when they moved to Slayton. David worked as a heavy equipment operator before joining the Murray County Highway Department in 1985. David retired in 2007.

C. ROBERT (BOB) CLOUSER

Bob, the Metal Man, passed away at age 80 on January 26, 2023 at his home in Montrose, Colorado from a short battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Betty and his son, Monte. A celebration of his life will be held this summer in Minnesota.

DONALD E. ANDERSON, JR.

Donald Edwin Anderson Jr., of Plainfield, IL, age 64, unexpectedly passed away on February 7, 2023. He was born in Slayton, Minnesota on December 16, 1958, the son of Donald Edwin Sr. and Janet Anne nee Smith Anderson.

DOROTHY A. MEARS

Dorothy Anna Mears departed this life peacefully on November 22, 2022. She was 100 years old and was known for her humor, kindness, compassion, and positive outlook on life.

DORIS E. FISCHER

Doris E. Fischer, wife of Sylvester Fischer (deceased 2011), age 90 of Slayton, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Westbrook Good Samaritan Care Center. Private family services will be held at a later date.

ROBERT W HANSON

ROBERT W. HANSON Robert Hanson died on Friday, February 3, 2023 at Johnson Memorial Care Center in Dawson, MN at the age of 93 years young.

ORVILLE “ORV” E. GRIEME

Orv Grieme was born on November 21, 1927, in Pipestone, Minnesota to Ernest and Elizabeth Helmke Grieme. He grew up on the family farm near Lake Wilson, MN and graduated from Lake Wilson High School in 1945. Orv enlisted in the United States Navy in January 1946. Following his retuned from the Navy Orv attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD graduating with a Business Degree. On August 14, 1953, he, and Sharlotte “Shar” Heggen were married at Hope Lutheran Church in Minneota, MN. Following their marriage, they made their home in Slayton. In 1955 Orv started his own accounting and tax preparation business in Slayton. Orv and Shar always enjoyed spending family time at the cabin on Ottertail Lake. Shar passed away in February 2017. In 2018 Orv retired at the young age of 89 and moved to Monticello, MN to be near family. Orv passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN at the age of 95. He was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton holding several offices as well as teaching Sunday School. Orv served on many boards over his 70 years in Slayton like the Murray County Fair Board, Slayton School Board, and Slayton Cemetery Board. He also was an active member of the Slayton Kiwanis and a big supporter of high school athletics. In his younger days Orv played baseball for both the Hadley and Slayton teams as well as coaching Little League Baseball. Orv enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, sports, fishing, playing cards and the Minnesota Gophers.
