Butch Huerkamp was born on April 21, 1955, in Worthington, Minnesota to Joseph “Jody” and Louella “Lou” Voss Huerkamp. He grew up on the family farm north of Iona, MN and graduated from Slayton High School in 1973.
Butch made his home in the Slayton and Avoca areas working for Onken Spray Services in Avoca, and Spartz Plumbing and Heating in Slayton.
On September 12, 2015, he and Lisa Sell were married at their farm near Avoca.
Butch worked for the City of Fulda as Maintenance Supervisor and Water and Sewer Operator. Butch retired from the City of Fulda in 2017.
In 2018 they purchased a home on Avoca Lake. Retirement did not last long for Butch as he soon took a job with the cities of Avoca and Iona Water and Sewer Treatment retiring in 2024.
Butch passed away at his home on Monday, August 31, 2026, at the age of 71.
Butch enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycles, cars, and pontoon rides on Avoca Lake.
Survivors include his wife, Lisa Huerkamp, two children, Brandi Ronning, and Justin Huerkamp, four grandchildren, five siblings and their spouses, Randal Huerkamp, Dale and Eileen Huerkamp, Debra and Steven Suedbeck, Cynthia Conway, and Diane Huerkamp, and several nieces and nephews and their families. He is preceded in death by his parents, two infant children, Brent Huerkamp, and Shannon Huerkamp, and one brother-inlaw, William “Bill” Conway.
Graveside services will be on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Avoca, MN at 12:00 p.m. with Fr. Peter Schuster officiating. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the Avoca Bar until 2:30 p.m.
