NEW OFFICER SWORN IN DURING SLAYTON CITY COUNCIL MEETING

While friends and family proudly looked on, the Slayton City Council on Monday officially swore in Police Officer Johnathon Reim. Slayton Police Chief Jeremy Steinle praised Reim’s ability to become part of the community and law enforcement community in such a short time.

MCC Homecoming Royalty Crowned

Coronation for MCC Homecoming took place on Monday night, with Lucas Kuball and Katie Blankenship crowned. Guest Speaker for the event was Mike Reemtsma. Candidates were Reese Wajer & Carter Hanson, Lilly Kleven & Quintin Lewis, Blankenship & Teague Meyer, Lizzie Daniels & Colby Kesteloot, Calleigh Doeden and Kuball. Attendants were Maryn Larson & Ty Freeman – 1st grade, Sofia Lee & Noah Hanson – 9th grade, Reese Gilberston & Dylan Gilbertson – 10th grade, and Kat Miller & Krew Schneider – 11th grade.

CONSTRUCTION WORK PROGRESSES ON VALHALLAROAD

By Crystal Reith Increased traffic and pedestrian use of County State Aid Highway 13 was the initial prompt to raise the dikes on the road that leads from highway 59 to Shetek Lutheran Ministries. “We tried to get some buy in from the regulatory agencies in 2005, but didn’t get very far in the process and we were unable to secure additional funding for a project of this scope,” said Randy Groves, Murray County Highway Engineer.

A Ride Through Time The Friends of the Casey Jones Trail recently hosted a six-mile guided bike ride near Currie, giving participants a unique chance to experience the rich natural and cultural history of Lake Shetek. Roseann Schauer, Lake Shetek State Park Manager and Naturalist, led the tour, drawing on her years as a park naturalist from 1998 to 2002.

REBEL GIRLS GET 6TH SEASON WIN

The MCC Rebel Girls were on the road Tuesday night travelling to Hills to take on the Hills Beaver Creek Patriots in a Red Rock Conference matchup. The Rebels have two games on their schedule this week with HBC followed by Southwest Minnesota Christian on Thursday night. The Rebels have been celebrating homecoming this week and opening the week with a victory was the first thing on their mind. The Rebels would do exactly what they set out to do.

VOLLEYBALL TEAM CELEBRATES HOME WIN AFTER AWAY LOSS

The MCC Volleyball team was back at home on Thursday night playing host to the Mountain Lake Area Comfrey Wolverines. The Rebels lost to HLOF on Tuesday night ending a two game winning streak but they were looking to bounce back against the one win Wolverines who have struggled this season. The Rebels would take care of business in a strong all around victory.
