As temperatures drop, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources encourages homeowners to take simple steps to keep their yard trees healthy through fall and winter. Fall Care: Water trees until the ground freezes, especially newly planted or young trees.

On October 6, 2025, community leaders, partners, and staff gathered at Iterro Life Sciences in Balaton to celebrate a milestone moment, the 40th Anniversary of the Southwest Minnesota Private Industry Council (PIC). The event brought together members of the Joint Powers Board, Workforce Development Board, and PIC nonprofit board for a joint meeting and dinner themed “Fueling Futures.” PIC Chair Ron Antony opened the evening with a warm welcome and reflection on the organization’s journey from its earliest days of job training to today’s innovative, regional workforce strategies. “Tonight is about more than marking 40 years on the calendar. It’s about celebrating the thousands of lives touched, the futures fueled, and the partnerships built across our 14-county region,” he said.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has up to $1,060,000 available to local entities such as lake associations, watershed districts, cities, and counties, as well as Tribal governments, for the management of curly-leaf pondweed, Eurasian watermilfoil, flowering rush and/or starry stonewort.

The Murray County 4-H Turkey Bingo event scheduled for Saturday, November 15 has been postponed due to the MCC Football Team making it to state. Since the game at US Bank Stadium is scheduled for the same day, Murray County 4-H has opted to postpone so we can all go cheer on the Rebels!

By Norma Dittman Although Duane and Shari Gehl, Dundee, never thought that they would visit the city of Fulda, Germany, the opportunity presented itself following the celebration of a granddaughter’s European wedding.

Veterans in Murray County were honored in a number of ways, including Veterans Day programs at Fulda and Murray County Central Schools. The program in Fulda was at the high school gymnasium and was organized by the Fulda FCCLA Chapter.

By Crystal Reith Girls on the Run (GOTR) participants celebrated another season with their commemorative 5K run in Sioux Falls on November 1. GOTR is a national nonprofit program that inspires girls in grades three to five to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum that integrates running.

The MCC Rebel football team loaded the equipment for their longest road trip in the last four seasons. The Rebels traveled to Rochester Mayo High School to play the Fillmore Central Falcons in the state quarterfinals. The winner would get to play at US Bank Stadium on November 15th at 11:30 am. Fillmore Central was the higher seeded team coming into the game, as they were undefeated. But records don’t matter much if teams are not playing the same schedule. Friday night the better record did not perform better, as once again a team from Section 3 came out on top.

Participants learn that they’re unique, amazing, strong and capable of anything they set their minds to doing” While each girl comes into the program with a different story, background and personality, Chapman’s favorite part of the program is watching each girl blossom into a stronger, more capable version of who was present at the very first practice.
