REFLECTION FROM JAKOB ETRHEIM
Jakob Etrheim, Murray County Museums Coordinator/Secretary, Slayton Kiwanis Club
During the Strategic Thinking Module of the Kiwanis Amplify Program, we were asked to take a test called the Clifton-Strengths Assessment. The assessment was developed by a group called The Gallup Organization. It’s a 30-minute test that asks 177 statements. From each statement, the test gives you two responses and you’re asked to select which response best describes you. The assessment measures your talents, natural patterns of thinking, feelings, and behaviors. From the results, the assessment categorizes you into five of 34 total CliftonStrengths themes. The themes from the assessment are given to you in a specific order. They claim that the odds of someone else having the exact same 5 strengths in the same order are 1 in 33 million.
I personally took the test twice; once for the Amplify program and another time through work. I had three themes that were the same on both assessments. They were:
1. Harmony
2. Context
3. Intellection
Some of the other themes I got on my two assessments were:
- Consistency
- Empathy
- Individualization
- Positivity
From the themes given, they provide tips of how to use your themes to your advantage. The assessment is open to any individual or business. Some of the benefits you could see by completing and implementing the CliftonStrength assessment include: working better with others, improving your career, and focusing and building on your strengths.
