REMINDS RESIDENTS TO HELP KEEP FIRE HYDRANTS CLEAR
Slayton City Council met on Tuesday, January 3. Council meeting minutes from the December 19 were reviewed and approved. The claims for the month were also reviewed. The claim for Slayton Electric was deleted, this will not be approved yet - Weston is going to check status of outstanding projects and confirm completion before invoice is paid. This will be revisited at the next meeting. All other claims were approved.
Next, pending items were discussed: The meeting that was to be held on 1/3 regarding the Golden Living Center development was postponed to January 10. No RFPs were received.
For the 34th Street project, the next step is to schedule a meeting with stakeholders/ property owners to discuss the financials regarding levy bonding and special assessments. This meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 1 at 7:00 pm at the Senior Center.
There was no unfinished business to discuss.
Next, new business was discussed:
• 2023 committee appointments were approved, with a few pending members left to be filled/confirmed.
• 2023 corporate signers resolution was approved.
• 2023 depositories were approved to be Minnwest Bank and First National Bank, both of Slayton.
• 2023 official newspaper and editorial contract was approved to be the Murray County Wheel Herald and the Murray County News, with a 50-cent increase over last years legal rate.
• 2023 City Council bylaws were approved, with an amendment to have the council meeting time be at 6pm from November 1 to April 30 and 7pm for May 1 to October 31.
• Water/Street Department surplus equipment includes the sewer camera and line locator. The camera is not in great condition, and neither item will have a reserve. Both items were approved for surplus sale.
• Police Department surplus equipment includes a 2008 GMC Pickup, 2014 Ford Interceptor, and 2007 Raptor Motorcycle. These items were approved for surplus sale.
• Small Cities Development Grant Contract - There are 19 projects for residential owner rehab, 4 projects for rental rehab, and 4 projects for commercial rehab. Total grant funding will be $737,840. Josh Malchow recommended approval for this grant project, which was granted by council members.
• 2023 CGMC Legislative Action Day - Josh requested approval for him and Mayor Miron Carney to attend, and approval was granted.
Another note mentioned was to remind residents to clear snow from the fire hydrants if they are able. Josh stated he would send this out via the Code Red system.
The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 17.
