SLAYTON CITY COUNCIL HELD MEETINGS ON DECEMBER 20TH AND ALSO JANUARY 3RD

Recap of the December 20th meeting: The 2022 levy was approved and set at $1,125,573 which is a 4.96% increase. This increase is in part due to rising expenses and an increase in health insurance premiums.

The 2022 liquor and tobacco licenses were approved for the following: Ag Plus, Prairie Pride, Almich’s, Aryian LLC: Slayton BP and Aryian LLC: dba-Slayton Liquor & Tobacco Store, Casey’s General Store, Cenex Convenience Store, Family Dollar and Slayton Discount Liquor. Bowling Alley fee for the AlleyCat Lanes, Pool Table fee for Grain Exchange, Pizza Ranch and City Limits, Operate Game Machines for AlleyCat Lanes, Grain Exchange, Pizza Ranch, City Limits and Golf on Broadway. Hold Dances & Bands for Grain Exchange and City Limits.

City Works Director, Weston Mahon, presented the Council with a new fee for the Snowplow Truck they are purchasing. There is an additional surcharge that has come up in the amount of $1,500. Mahon has spoken with North Central International, and they explained it is, unfortunately, out of their control and there will probably be more. The truck isn’t going to be ready until November 2022 and Mahon asked what the Council would like to do. It was decided to continue to move forward with the purchase and to just keep the Council updated on these changes.

Purchases were approved for Cold Water Suits, 10 Radios and Meters. City Administrator Josh Malchow brought these to the Council at this time because of the need to get these purchased before prices go up the first of the year. Fire Chief, Chris LeTendre was present to submit the resignation of Dean Ackerman (33) and Neil Forsberg (25) from the fire department. These were accepted by the Council.

The Council then moved into closed session.

Recap of the January 3rd meeting: Mayor Carney was absent this week. The 2022 City Appointments were reviewed and discussed. The Council passed the annual resolution giving those in the City Hall office the appropriate authority to sign documents on behalf of the City of Slayton. The 2022 bylaws were approved with the appropriate date changes for the new year. The 2022 Murray County Editorial Group was approved for the next year for legal publications. The appropriate depositories of Minnwest Bank and First National Bank were approved.

They next accepted the retirement of Mike Loosbrock for his 27 years of service. They also approved the hiring of Clayton Hartell and Wyatt Staples effective January 10th, 2022.

The last item of discussion was the quote for roof repair on the City Hall building. Buysee Roofing submitted a quote for repairs to the west end of the wall. This will include removing the existing clay tile and installing a new EPDM membrane over the top for the cost of $3,980. The Council approved this quote to move forward with the repairs.
