SLAYTON CITY COUNCIL CONTINUES STEPS FOR SMALL CITIES DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Slayton City Council met on Tuesday; January 18th due to the MLK holiday.

Eric Paulie, with Xcel Energy, was present at the meeting, just offering his support to the City of Slayton as they research their options and answer any questions that may arise. The Council approved the 2021 and 2022 bills. They also approved the 2022 voluntary assessment for environment action fund. These are funds in addition to the regular coalition dues and go directly to environmental concerns. The Council approved these items.

Update from MPCA on the leak site review for the Golden Living Center project: They will close/release the investigation/inspection site as it’s a “vacant” site, with the requirement that if it gets developed there will need to be proper mitigation done to the contaminated soil. This is being looked into and City Administrator Josh Malchow will keep the Council updated.

Lisa Graphenteen, with the Housing and Economic Development Services, Inc., was present to discuss the Small Cities Development Program that the City of Slayton is working on. The City of Slayton is requesting $737,840 in SCDP funding to assist 19 owner occupied households, 4 single family rental properties and 4 commercial properties in the community for rehabilitation projects. She explained the timeline for the process currently and what to expect. They reviewed the funding structure for the grant. The City then held the required public hearing to submit the grant application; no one was present with questions. They also approved the required resolutions covering conflict of interest, approval to submit final application and allow mayor to sign forms, completed grant application form, and request for admin services for the grant, due to them being federal funds. The resolutions were approved with the appropriate people abstaining from voting.

The Council next went into closed session to discuss labor negotiation strategy.

The next City Council meeting will February 7th at 7pm.
