SLAYTON CITY COUNCIL APPROVES CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT BONDS THROUGH RESOLUTION

Slayton City Council conducted a special meeting on Monday August 6th, 2026, to consider the Capital Improvement Bond Proposal. Discussion was held regarding the process and schedule of events needed for the proposal.

The public meeting was opened for questions. Questions were posed by a Slayton resident who asked about the Golden Living Center developments, the progress on purchasing Excel Energy and how that will affect their electric bill.

Although the questions were not germaine to the meeting, Mayor Myron Carney allowed City Administrator Josh Malchow to respond to all of the questions.

He explained that the General Obligation Capital Improvement Bonds are typically used for building-type projects such as fire halls, and public workshops, etc.

He also answered each question posed with updates on what is happening with each one.

Returning to the Capital Improvement Plan, the council voted to adopt Resolution 0806 20226A, giving approval to the issuance of General Obligation Capital Improvement Bonds in an amount not to exceed $1.95 million, and adopting the State of Minnesota Capital Improvement plans for the years 20262030.

The Public Meeting was then closed, and the Slayton City Council was called into session for their August 6th, 2026, meeting.

Marty Seifert, Coalition of Greater Minnesota City, was there to give the council an update on their projects.

Katie M. Jacobson, CPA, gave the 2025 Audit Presentation. Motions were made to authorize monetary transfers she suggested and to authorize Jacobson to submit her audit report.

Regarding the public works building proposal: a new development regarding an offer from the owner at the old public works building was extensively discussed. Following discussion, a motion was made, seconded and approved to reject Resolution 08-06-2026B regarding all bids for the City of Slayton Public Works building. Further research into possibilities of renovating the old public works building will be done by City of Slayton employees and governing officials.

The next meeting of the Slayton City Council will be on Monday, August 17th, 2026, 6 p.m.
