REBELS VOLLEYBALL LOSES TO LAKEVIEW

The MCC Volleyball team played their second game of the season this past Thursday night. The Rebels were on the road to Cottonwood to take on the Lakeview Lakers who were playing their third game of the season with one win and one loss to open the season. The one loss was to the RTR Knights one of the state ranked teams in the area this season. The Rebels were coming off a 3-1 loss at Canby on Tuesday night and were hoping to turn it around on Thursday.

The Rebels competed against the Lakers as the three scores would indicate, but the Rebels continued to struggle in aspects of the game that were a problem against Canby. The Rebels’ defense struggled to get enough blocks to force the Lakers to change things up as Avery Hinz would get one kill after another and she led the Lakers with 16. The Rebels struggled with serve, receive and passing which makes it really hard to break up long scoring streaks during the game. When the Rebels gave up the serve with a sideout, they struggled to get the serve back before Lakeview added points to their total. The Rebels lost games 1 and 2 with identical scores 25-21. The third game saw the Rebels score an additional point losing to the Lakers in three 25 to 22.

The Rebels lost their second game in a row to open the season to a very solid Lakeview Laker team three games to none. The Lakers took the games 25-21, 25-21, and 2522. The Rebels were led by Reese Gilbertson who totalled 10 kills in the match. Aubrey Biegler continues to show she is the Rebels most consistent server. Avery Hinz led the Lakers who showed some real balance to their offense especially when the Rebels started to take away Hinz. The Rebels will scrimmage on Tuesday before playing a tournament this coming weekend.
