The MCC Rebel Girls Wrapped up a busy week on the road in Edgerton on Thursday. The Rebels took a rough loss in Windom on Monday but rebounded with a better performance against the Pipestone Arrows on Tuesday. MCC was facing a tough Edgerton team with great size upfront. For the first time all week, the Rebels had their entire roster ready to play but with illness and injurycausing players to miss much of the week, the Rebels hadn’t been able to practice as they would like. The Rebels would take their third loss of the week as the Rebels struggled to stop the size of Edgerton.
The Rebels played a strong first half where they really competed with the Flying Dutchmen. The Rebels did a nice job taking away perimeter shots for Edgerton but they struggled to stop Reece Wassink the 5’11” senior forward has had strong games against the Rebels in the past and this game was another strong one. Wassink scored 17 first-half points making shots from inside and the outside. Though the Rebels couldn’t slow her down in the first 18 minutes the Rebels were able to stay in the game. Emily Rohrer was back for the Rebels and she scored 7 firsthalf points and Thea Schneider added 5 to lead the Rebels. MCC had eight players score in the first half but only Rohrer and Schneider had more than one make. The Rebels turned the ball over 14 times before halftime and Edgerton gave it up 8 times. Edgerton led at the half 36-23.
Down 13 points at the half, the Rebels were in a position to threaten the Flying Dutchmen but MCC would start the second half making two free throws in the first ten minutes of the half. With the offense coming to a stop the Rebels would see their deficit increase. Alyda Vande Griend and Emma Schoolmeester led Edgerton with six points each in the second half. The Rebels didn’t have a player score more than three points in the second half. As the Rebels scored just 18 second-half points the Dutchmen were scoring 27. The Rebels fell behind at one point by 30 points but MCC made a nice run late in the game with their backups to lose 63-41.
It was a rough week for the Rebels who dropped all three games but MCC did play better in the final two games of the week. The Rebels will need to continue to improve going into another busy week this week. Emily Rohrer led the Rebels with 7 points while Mary Lou McNab and Thea Schneider finished with 5 each. Alyssa Boerboom, Lilly Daniels, and Ella Gillete scored points for MCC. Wassink led the Dutchmen with 21 points while Vande Griend and Schoolmeester scored 12 each. MCC will play three games coming up this next week starting Monday in Mountain Lake.
