The Murray County Central Rebel Volleyball team was in Shakopee for a tournament this past weekend. They opened the season with a pair of losses to Canby and Lakeview over one week ago. The Rebels were able to scrimmage Central Minnesota Christian earlier in the week but on Saturday the team had a chance to see four teams they don’t see on a regular basis. The Rebels saw a mixed bag of good and bad on the floor on Saturday but came away with many positives.

Their first two games in pool play saw two much larger opponents in class AAAA Forest Lake and Roseville. These two teams are hovering around 500 for the season but playing against AAAA opponents rather than Class A like MCC. The Rebels struggled as one would expect against much larger schools. MCC lost to Forest Lake 25-18 and 25 to 13. The Rebels then lost to Roseville 25 to 12 and 25 to 10. The Rebels put together two of their best games of the season in their final two games. The Rebels beat Rochester Mayo, another AAAA school, 29-27 and 26-24 in a very hard-fought match. They finished the tournament with a win over class AA Southwest Christian high school out of Chaska. In final game, the Rebels won with 26-24 and 28-26.

The Rebels were led this weekend in digs by Avery Thovson and Danyel Neilson who collected 29 and 23 over the course of the first two games. They were led in kills by Reese Gilbertson who finished with 11 in the first two games, while Brielle Plotz added 8 and Kat Miller 7. The team is now 2-4 on the season and will play their first Red Rock Conference game of the season Thursday night in Mountain Lake against the Wolverines.

MCC Rebels will look to get back on track against a team they have had some success with over the last couple of seasons.
