The MCC Rebel Girls were on the road on Monday night taking on the Wolverines of Mountain Lake Area Comfrey. The Rebels played the Wolverines back in December and came up short losing in Slayton by ten points. The Rebels are back healthy once again but the Rebels played one of if not their worst game of the season Monday night. The Rebels didn’t pass the ball well, they didn’t shoot it well, and they had no chance to win the game.

MLAC took the game over early in the first as the Rebels turned the ball over or missed shots for the first ten minutes and six seconds of the game. The Rebels failed to score until Emily Rohrer made a pair of free throws and it was less than a minute later when Zoey Iverson scored two points from the field. That would be the Rebels only four points in the first half. The Wolverines took advantage of 18 Rebel turnovers even though they didn’t put much pressure on the ball. Jaci Tollefson and Brooke Naas each scored 10 first-half points as MLAC led 22-4 at the half.

The Rebels didn’t have much of a shot in the second half but they would play better and the reserves were able to make some shots. One good way to protect a big halftime lead is to score more points than you did in the first half and the Wolverines did that. Scoring 24 points in the half while the Rebels would score 23 points in the half which would have kept them in the game in the first but clearly not enough to catch up. Jessica Miller scored a career-high 7 points and Mary Lou McNab would score another 7 points in the losing effort. The Rebels would fall 46 to 27.

The Rebels were led by Jessica Miller, Mary Lou McNab, and Zoey Iverson who each scored 7 points. MCC turned the ball over more than 30 times and they gave up to many easy layups because of those turnovers. The Rebels will have two tough games coming up against Red Rock Central and Southwest Christian.
