The MCC Rebel boys wrapped up the regular season in Westbrook, taking on the WWG Chargers. The Rebels had a strong run through the last 12 games and they were hoping for one more big win before the playoffs begin on Saturday in Worthington against Hills Beaver Creek. The Chargers will open tournament play against Red Rock Central.

The two teams played a close game in Slayton earlier this year with the Chargers having a huge run in the final 60 seconds to win. That was not the case on Monday. Everyone was expecting a hard-fought game to come down to the wire but the Chargers didn’t cooperate. The Chargers were ready to shoot the basketball and they did it very well. The Rebels would lead 12-5 early in the game with Christian Tentinger and Bryce Hoekman leading the way, but the lead wouldn’t last. Hudsen Jenniges got hot for the Chargers, scoring eight first-half points to lead WWG. Then it was Dan Kleven and Brady Ross. Finally, it was Adyn Vue who connected on a pair of 3’s. The Rebels trailed at the half 34 to 21.

MCC wouldn’t get much closer in the second half as the run continued. Hudsen Jenniges and Dan Kleven ran away from the Rebels as the duo would combine for 21 points in the second half 11 and 10 respectively. The Rebels only scored 18 points in the entire half. It was a brutal ending to a great regular season for the Rebels and hopefully, it will serve as a wake-up call before the playoffs. The Chargers got the win 68 to 39.

The biggest difference in the game was shooting. MCC had too many turnovers but the real problem was the fact WWG made almost 50% of their shots. The Rebels didn’t make 30%. The Chargers had 3 players in double figures while the Rebels had zero. Christian Tentinger scored 8 points to lead the Rebels in scoring. The Red Rock Conference final standings would have SWC in first place followed by MCC and WWG two games back.
