Court Queen of Peace met February 25, 2023 at 9 AM with 15 members present. Father Thien Nguyen led the meal prayer and all enjoyed the meal prepared and served by Marge Schoon and her committee. The Memorare was said followed by the flag pledge and business meeting. The minutes from the January 28th meeting were not read due to the absence of the secretary. In the absence of the treasurer, the report was read by vice regent, Deanna Konkol. The financial secretary, SOS chair, youth chair and spirituality chairs were all absent but there was a reminder from the youth chair that there will be Shadow Stations on March 15. Regent Amy Kathman summarized the information she has gotten from the state legislative chair indicating that the Senate passed a bill that would codify (create a law by means of legislation) that would give an individual access to reproductive health care. Governor Walz is expected to sign the bill into law.
Father Thien informed the daughters that Freedom doesn’t allow us to do whatever we want but rather gives us the freedom to do what is right and that God allows us to choose.
Old business was a review of the Lenten lunch menus and chairs. The 1st lunch on February 23 was postponed to March 16 due to weather. Turkey will be on March 2 with Rita L. and Deanna K. in charge, March 9 will be pork loin with Amy K. and Sue Zenk in charge and March 16 BBQ with Barb Neilson and Jeaneen in charge. There is a possibility of a 4th lunch dependent on how many workers are available.
The CDA convention in Detroit Lakes is April 21-22. We can send 4 delegates and 8 alternates. Those attending are Amy Kathman, Jeaneen Nelson, Marlys Knuth, Deanna Konkol, Jan Bryan and Rita Lear. Deanna has donated essential oils for the silent auction basket Members were encouraged to donate ‘Country Cupboard’ and handiwork items.
Jeaneen Nelson dropped off the items collected for the Bishop Dudley House in Sioux Falls. There will be another collection coming up as it was decided to do it twice a year.
Father has requested a donation from the CDA for the Pew Fund. Since there were too few officers at the meeting to make a motion, there was just discussion. The money could be raised by having a nonfood luncheon (just have members donate money). Another suggestion was to send a letter to those not participating in Lenten lunches to donate for the lunches and the Pew Fund. It was also suggested that the proceeds from one of the Lenten lunches be donated to the Pew Fund. No decision was made.
The next meeting will take place before the Lenten lunch on March 23.
