The success of the Fourth of July holiday weekend depends on everyone working together to keep our roadways, trails, boat accesses, and lakes safe. Murray County, the Shetek Area Lakes Association, local law enforcement, fire departments, EMS personnel, and public works staff are committed to providing a safe environment for residents and visitors. However, public safety is a shared responsibility.
Every vehicle parked legally, every boater who follows watercraft regulations, and every visitor who plans ahead helps reduce congestion and allows emergency responders to do their jobs efficiently when seconds matter.
The County Road 13 Dike Project has greatly improved access to Valhalla Island and surrounding recreational areas. To preserve these improvements and maintain safe access for emergency vehicles, parking restrictions along walking trails, road shoulders, and designated no-parking zones will be strictly enforced throughout the holiday weekend. These measures are not intended to inconvenience visitors but rather to ensure that fire trucks, ambulances, law enforcement vehicles, and tow trucks can reach those in need without delay.
Officials encourage visitors to be patient, courteous, and considerate of fellow lake users. A little cooperation can go a long way toward preventing accidents, reducing traffic congestion, and creating a safer environment for everyone enjoying Murray County’s lakes.
Public Boat Launches and Access Sites on Lake Shetek To help distribute traffic and reduce congestion, boaters are encouraged to utilize all available public access locations around Lake Shetek:
• Marsh’s Landing (Valhalla Island)
• Ragan’s Landing
• Forman Acres County Park Boat Access
• Public Access Adjacent to Shetek Lutheran Ministries Camp
• Shetek State Park Public Access
• North Inlet Public Access In addition to Lake Shetek access points, visitors may also consider utilizing public accesses on surrounding lakes within the Shetek area when appropriate, including:
• Lake Sarah Public Access
• Bloody Lake Public Access Boaters should be aware that parking and trailer storage capacity vary by location. Marsh’s Landing is expected to experience the highest level of congestion during the holiday weekend and may reach capacity during peak hours. Visitors are encouraged to consider alternative access locations when possible.
Use Ramp Tracker to Help Everyone Murray County and the Shetek Area Lakes Association encourage all boaters to download and use Ramp Tracker before heading to the lake.
By reporting launch conditions and parking availability, users provide real-time information that helps fellow boaters choose less congested locations, reducing wait times, traffic backups, and parking challenges.
When more users participate, everyone benefits through improved traffic flow, shorter launch times, and a safer boating experience.
