Many Murray County 4-H members and volunteers were honored at the annual awards celebration held Sunday, November 7 at the Murray County 4-H Building.
Murray County 4-H Ambassadors along with Cameron and Chandler Hilltoppers 4-H Clubs hosted the Mexican-themed event, “Taco ‘bout a great year in 4-H!”
Murray County 4-H Horse Drill Team gave a video presentation highlighting the state competition where they received championship honors. Coach Jody Jackels was presented with the 2021 4-H Horse Project County All-Star award.
Members received record completion, years in 4-H, outstanding fundraiser sales, goals met, young achiever, and young youth leader awards.
Ryanna Schreier was named outstanding Murray County 4-H Ambassador for 2021. Ryanna, a Currie Poco-a-Poco 4-H Club member, is also Federation president for the current year.
Receiving $500 Murray County 4-H college scholarships were Megan Surprenant, Currie Poco-a-Poco 4-H Club; Kennedy Jackels & Makayla Rhodes, Cameron 4-H Club; and Ashley Hellewell, Lakers 4-H Club. Emma Siedschlag and Ashley Hellewell were selected for Andrea Ruesch Memorial Scholarships earlier this year.
Volunteers honored for their years of service to 4-H were: 5 years – James Dahlgren, Jessica Doeden, Cheryl Heard, Jody Jackels, Cassandra Kleinjan, Amy Kruse, Carolyn Prins, Kylie Samuelson, Kiley Wiering; 10 years – Samuel Jens, Cody Van Eck; 15 years – Suzanne Bau, Eric Dahlgren, Sarah Dahlgren, Dawn Mouw, Donald Van Eck, Sandra Van Eck; 20 years-Stacy Posthuma; 30 years – David Herrig, Faye Schuur; 35 years – Janet Opdahl.
Murray County Parks Department was selected as 2021 Friend of 4-H for the support they give 4-H all year long. They manage the fairgrounds and keep the 4-H Building in top condition. Director Justin Hoffman received the award on behalf of the department.
Former Prairie Hustlers 4-H Club leaders Sarah and Eric Dahlgren and Teresa Hamman were honored with 4-H alumni awards.
