The Eagles came into Thursdays game 2-1 in the Red Rock Conference with a 2-1 record with wins over Edgerton and RRC and a loss to Adrian Ellsworth. The Rebels kept their streak going as they picked up their third win of the conference season.
The Rebels and the Eagles played a pair of close, hard fought games to open the contest. The Eagles took the lead early on MCC but they couldn’t pull away. The Rebels kept it close and at the end of set 1 the Rebels got some big kills by Reese Gilbertson and the Eagles had some costly service errors as the Rebels took game 1 25-23.
The second set was a mirror image of the first with the Eagles leading much of the set but they were unable to put the Rebels away. MCC got some big ace serves and timely hits from Addison Swenson and Brielle Plotz and MCC would get the win 26-24. The third set saw the Rebels jump out to a big lead at one point leading by ten points. The Eagles rallied late in the set but MCC got the win and the match 25 to 21.
The Rebels showed a lot of grit in games one and two as they Rebels fell behind early and had to come from behind. MCC did a good job of staying in the moment and taking advantage of the openings in the Eagles defense. MCC really got a great boost from the service game and the number of aces that came from everyone on the roster. Reese Gilbertson led the team in kills and her strength combined with her ability to see when a little less power came in handy.
The Rebels next game is a huge home game against WWG Tuesday night.
