The MCC Rebel Girls were in Tyler on Monday night, taking on the Knights in the Rebel’s only game of the week. In fact, the Rebels have just two games left; the first with the Knights and the second, next Monday against the Edgerton Flying Dutchmen. The Knights have had an up-and-down season but are above 500 this year and are looking to improve on their post-season positioning. The Rebels want to get some positive play heading into the playoffs, which will start next week.

The Rebels and the Knights started slowly in this game offensively. Just over three minutes into the game the score was 3-2 in favor of RTR. Ten minutes into the game, the Rebels trailed by just two points. The score was 10-8. That is when the game changed. The Rebels, who had been working the ball up slowly, but doing it without turning the ball over, started to throw the ball away and the Knights began making shots. They would score the next 12 points in a row to put the Rebels down 22 to 8. The Knights didn’t slow down, closing the first half out on a 23 to 4 run. RTR led at the half 33 to 12.

Seanna Swenson led the Rebels in scoring and rebounding, but the overall depth of the Knights was just better than what the Rebels could put on the floor. MCC had one player in double figures and only one player with more than 5 points in the game. RTR, on the other hand, had 5 players with more than 5 points and two were in double figures. The Rebels never threatened the lead in the second half after the Knights built such a big lead in the first. The Rebels would play with the Knights, only being outscored by 5 points in the second half. The Knights got the win 54 to 28.

The Rebels have struggled all season to shoot the ball. Not so much from the three-point line, but inside the three-point line. On Monday, the Rebels struggled from everywhere, making just 30% of their shots. MCC only made 3 of 8 free throws, while allowing the Knights to shoot 31 free throws, where they made 16. The Rebels committed 29 turnovers compared to the Knight’s 16. Seanna Swenson scored 10 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Allyson Nelson scored 11 points for RTR while Madison Lawrence added 10. The Rebels will play their final game at home next Monday night against Edgerton Public.
