By Arnold Krusemark This weekend will be the first holiday of the season - Halloween. An area newspaper carried a story on the history and supposed events in Halloween’s past along with the events of the next day - All Saints’ Day.
Locally a frequent event is Trick or Treat for kids. In this writer’s past we can remember one year in elementary our teacher had a Halloween program at school. One of students had the job of putting on a bed sheet and playing a spook. He did well too. That year we did not have a Christmas program but rather a Christmas party.
Another year we had a Halloween party including bobbing for apples, eating a doughnut held by a string. We all succeeded - finally. As our current gardening, we noticed most gardens have died down but leaving the pumpkins and squashes to be brought in when time permits. At least the weather has been reasonable with coats still optional. Father used to say that winter has arrived when we find snow on the ground one morning.
Do your best to finish your outside work while the weather is still reasonable. The inside work can be done later.
Don’t forget your house plants. Until next week.
