This will be another Thanksgiving column. When we get together for Thanksgiving we might remember the first pilgrims and their first full year in the New World. It had been a hard year but a very good one. A celebration of thanks was decided on. The crops had done well. The Indians had been friendly and helpful to the new settlers.
A feast with games was planned which lasted three days. In a way it was potluck. When the Indians arrived the Indian chief sent several of his braves to get food. They came back with several deer. The celebration was a success in many ways. For one thing it kept peace with the Indians for two generations.
The Pilgrims thanked God for everything. Nowadays when we get together one thing we can do too is for everyone to remember what has happened during the year they are thankful for even if only getting through another year.
That will cost nothing and keep the spirit of the season in mind. And then maybe we can look forward to another successful year again. Try to wrap up your garden, house and fall work before snow really comes. And don’t forget to care for your house plants too. Until next week.
