The MCC Rebel Girls Basketball team was on the road Tuesday night as they traveled to Jackson to take on the Huskies of Jackson County Central. The Rebels would be playing their second Big South opponent of the season. The Rebels lost to the Pipestone Arrows during the week between Christmas and New Years and for the second time this season the Rebels would lose to a team from the Big South.

The Rebels fell behind early in their game against JCC on Tuesday night but the Rebels hung in the game trailing by just nine points after the first 18 minutes. The Rebels trailed 31 to 22. The Rebels were right with the Huskies in free throws made and threepointers made but in the second half the Rebels would fall behind quickly and JCC would pound the glass for 17 offensive rebounds. Those offensive rebounds allowed the Huskies to take 25 more shots than the Rebels from the field. MCC turned the ball over 22 times while only forcing 9 turnovers themselves. The drastic difference in offensive rebounding and turnovers led the Huskies to a 76 to 41 win.

Most times when teams are similar in some key statistics the games are close. In this case, the Rebels and the Huskies were close in making free throws JCC made 8 the Rebels 6. Three-point shooting JCC made 6 MCC connected on 5. The difference was shots taken inside the three-point line and that was due to turnovers and offensive rebounding. The Huskies had 7 more offensive rebounds and they forced the Rebels into 13 more turnovers. MCC was led in scoring by Jayda Hellewell who scored 12 points. Seanna Swenson and Casey Miller each scored 8. The Rebels will be back in action Thursday at home against RRC and Saturday at Edgerton Public.
