FULDA SCHOOL BOARD APPROVES PRELIMINARY 2026-2027 DISTRICT REVENUE AND EXPENDITURE BUDGETS

Looking forward to the upcoming school year of 20262027, Fulda School Board approved the preliminary 20262027 Revenue and Expenditures Budgets at their Monday night meeting.

Included in the consent agenda were approvals for membership in the Minnesota Rural Education Association and the Minnesota School Board Association, and contracts for summertime employees.

The Fulda Junior Class made a request to the board to be able to donate their prom “free will donations” of $491.00 to the Fulda Food Shelf as a way to give back to the community. The request was approved.

In Open Forum, Nan Henning posed questions about delayed posting of school board meeting minutes, and future planning in cooperation with the Murray County Central School District. She raised an objection to a school board agenda item regarding Building Project Change Orders.

Under Old Business, approvals were given for Hearing the Third Reading of District Policies; Hearing of the Second of Three Reading for both the Updated District Policies and the New District Policies regarding Artificial Intelligence.

A Resolution for membership in the Minnesota State High School League for 2026-2027 was accepted.

Two other roll call votes were taken regarding the Resolution Relating to the Election of School Board Members and Calling the School District General Election, as well as the Resolution Establishing Dates for Filing Affidavits of Candidacy for School Board. Both resolutions were accepted.

After hearing opinions from Kristen Peltola and Shannon Cowdin, the board passed the proposal for the Safe and Strong Child Program for kindergarten through 5th, and possibly, 6th grade students. The program is offered through the Southwest Crisis Center and teaches about good boundaries.

A total spending limit of $10,000 was set for repairs to Fulda Pool. That limitation does not include general maintenance.

Approved by unanimous vote was the 2026-2027 Superintendent/ High School Principal contract.

Also approved was an agenda item that authorizes Superintendent Mike Pagel to approve Building Project Change Orders up to $20,000 without School Board Approval.

Recognition of District Groups and Supporters included those who helped with the quick moving of items necessary for the building project to begin, Maynard’s Grocery for supporting the elementary Color Run, Murray County Cattlemen for grilling lunches for students and staff, all paraprofessional and teacher substitutes throughout the 2025-2026 school year, Nobles Cooperative Electric for a grant toward the PBIS Program.

Congratulations were extended to Mason Kirchner and Alabama Hoonhorst for qualifying for the Minnesota State Track Meet, and to new tenured teachers - Amy Derenge and Kelly Johnson.

The next regular meeting of Fulda School Board is scheduled for July 13, 2026, 6 p.m. at the high school.
